CHALLENGING! and not much water. I walked the Deep Creek creek bed from the Deep Creek trailhead to where it flows into the Spokane river and then back around across the Deep Creek bridge that takes you over the creek where it meets the river and then up the partially paved wide road to the parking area. I was so surprised when the creek bed was dry, I expected water flowing and that was not the case. Here and there there was some standing water or even a trickle flowing but otherwise until you got almost to the river it was dry. Huge boulders, rocks and fallen trees had to be climbed over, gone around or in one case you had to slide down a pole to get to the bottom and continue. The massive boulders look like they should block the creek but as water does I'm sure it finds its way around. In one case you go through a narrow opening between 2 of them. Not for the faint of heart you will need good shoes and good balance. Worth the work as it really is a cool experience.
Enjoying the paths, trails, roads and by-ways of the Inland Northwest by foot. Sharing where I've been through pictures and text so you can explore them yourself walking, jogging, bicycling or under whatever foot powered means you enjoy.

English Point Trails, Hayden Lake, Idaho
Went walkin at the neat English Point Trails in Hayden Lake, Idaho today. There are numerous choices of trails in different lengths, from .8 miles, 1.6 and then a longer trail on the other side of the road. Because of limited time I did the 1.6 mile. I will be back to check out the one on the other side of the road. The trails are well used but not as well marked as I would have liked. They have a map to show you what trails are there but then they don't mark them along the trails. They all loop back to the parking area so you'll end up back there anyway. I stopped and asked Merlie's (the Border Collie) people about the trails and they pointed me in the right direction. Keisha the German Shepard and Moxie (the puppy) were taking their dad for a walk on the trail. Keisha only has 3 legs but she doesn't let that slow her down. The scenery is mostly forest with a slight view of Hayden Lake through the tree's. Trail's have some slight up and down but are an pretty easy walk.

1st on the snow on the Columbia Plateau Trail, Fish Lake trail head
It is always thrilling to be the first being to make tracks on a fresh layer of snow. I got that honor this morning on the Columbia Plateau trail going out of the Fish Lake trail head. Heck, I didn't see any other tracks until about a mile in and then the quail had been there before me. The sun was shining, the snow glistening the streams along the trail gurgling away. The resident Kingfisher was singin his pretty song and even posed for a picture. Ducks were taking advantage of the moving water. I met a cross country skier as I was headed back and another walker was out stretching their leg on the newly fallen snow. BEAUTIFUL DAY to go walking

Centennial Trail Kendall Yards, Peaceful Valley loop
What a wonderful day for a walk! The trail was icy in spots but mostly pretty beaten down. I started in Kendall Yards, parked by the park, and went west and down the winding trail across the bridge to the People's Park. There is a trail along the south side of the river for the first part of the walk through Peaceful Valley but then you have to walk on the road and up into town. I crossed the river on the Monroe St Bridge east side and then caught the trail again on the north side of the bridge. You go back under the bridge on the trail. As I headed back to the car I was greeted by a wonderful, fun very active little puppy named June. She is only 4 months old, a German Shepard/Border Collie mix and judging by the looks of her feet won't be little for long.
