Turnbull Wildlife Refuge 5/28 & 30

My last 2 walks were on the Turnbull Wildlife Refuge. I had never been into the actual compound until Monday and what a neat, well kept area it. You have to pay $3 to go into the parking area But there's a lot of trails to go on, bathrooms and is well developed. Today, 5/30 I walked a trail I have walked many times before off of Cheney/Plaza Rd that takes you into the northwester part of Turnbull onto the Columbia Plateau Trail. I park on a turn-off just before you reach the overpass that goes over the trail. Both provide waterviews, wetlands and birds galore. I will for sure be back at the main Turnbull compound to explore the other trails. WATCH OUT FOR TICKS, PICKED UP A LOT OF THEM ON THE LAST OUTING.

Sulllivan Rd north side of river trail

This trail runs from the parking lot on the northwest side of Sullivan road, going west along the river ending right across from Mirabeau Park. You run into a fence so can't go any further. Birds singing, flowers blooming and the river raging along, although the river isn't as high as it was a few days back.People were out enjoying the summer weather. Including an older hiker and a group of guys that were out enjoying a hike and climbin around on the old railroad bridge.

Cheney Wetland Trail, Cheney, Wa

This trail goes off of the Columbia Plateau trailhead to the east of the Cheney/Spangle trailhead. It is a dirt path that is well marked and travels all the way around large marshes and bodies of water. Forrest scenery is also passed through on this little known gem. It is a little over 3 miles long. Birds, birds and more birds sing, squawk and quack as you pass.

Centennial Trail, Kendall Yards

I always enjoy my jaunts on the Centennial Trail through the Kendall Yards stretch. All 4 seasons there are people out enjoying the beauty of the area. Today there were a lot of bike riders, walkers, a wheel chair racer and joggers. There were also a lot of folk out enjoying time with their 4 legged friends. Including a nice man and his large full of fun poodle. A good time was had by all!

Centennial Trail Maringo trailhead to milepost 12

It was a little overcast yesterday and unusually muggy, but nice to be on the trail. This stretch is great for wildlife, people using the beaches when the water isn't so high and really great river views. Speaking of the water, the mighty Spokane was raging yesterday. It was really high but it looks like we might escape the flooding of the trail that happened last year.

Falls Park, Post Falls, Spokane River Corbin's Ditch path

If you've never gone out of Falls Park and ventured out on a hike along the Spokane River, along Corbins Ditch you're in for a challenging treat. Corbins Ditch is that funny concrete viaduct you've always wondered about if you happened to glance to the south of the freeway going east just before you get to the Spokane Street exit in Post Falls .  A enterprising man at the turn of the 20th century decided to build this viaduct to bring water from the Spokane River to the west, as far away as the Spokane Valley. It is such an interesting and mostly unknown part of the area's history. The dam looked to be full open and was letting a torrent of water down the river. The Canadian Geese babies and wonderful wild flowers made me feel like spring was really here, finally!

Columbia Plateau Trail Fish Lake

What a glorious day for a walk on Monday. Ran into a bunch of people fishing in Fish Lake. They were having a good day. The chipmunk was enjoying the sunshine. The streams on either side of the trail were running high but not over their banks as will often happen with spring run-off.
